Iredell County is represented in
Congress by two freshmen members. Both appear to be working hard to
stay in touch with their constituents.
Congresswoman Virginia Foxx
represents the Fifth District, which includes the Statesville area and
areas of the county north and east of Statesville. Congressman Patrick
McHenry represents the Tenth District, which includes the southern and
western areas of Iredell.
Foxx recently announced that she
will be holding regular office hours in Statesville. A member of her
staff will be available the first and third Mondays of each month from
1:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Iredell County Government Center, 200 S.
Center St., in Statesville (Old Iredell County Courthouse building).
“I encourage people to drop by
during office hours. We can help with situations involving Social
Security benefits, Medicare, military cases, veteran’s benefits,
immigration matters, passports, the Internal Revenue Service, securing
military medals for veterans or with any other federal government
agency, ” Foxx said.
Foxx maintains a full-time
district office in Clemmons. The phone number is (336) 778-0211.
Rep. McHenry recently held a
series of “town hall” meetings around his district. We attended
his meeting in Mooresville, along with about 75 others.
Members of the audience asked
questions on immigration, federal spending, medical care, the CAFTA
treaty, energy, and a host of other issues.
We were impressed with McHenry’s
performance. He gave honest, principled answers to the questions and
demonstrated a keen mastery of the issues.
McHenry maintains a full-time
district office in Hickory. The toll-free number is (800) 477-2576.
