The Record & Landmark has
launched a new, Spanish-language newspaper, Periodico Hispano.
The free tabloid contains both original material and reprints of
articles from the parent newspaper.
The Statesville Housing Authority
(SHA) ran a quarter-page ad in the new publication. The ad, written in
Spanish, advises readers that federal and state funds are available to
those who qualify for help with purchasing a house. It says that
information is available in Spanish, and gives the names and numbers of
both English and Spanish-speaking contact personnel.
It appears the SHA does not think
they are spending enough taxpayer money providing housing for U.S.
citizens, who presumably are English speaking. The ad in question is
obviously aimed at non-citizens.
