When the new county library was opened recently, it displayed a plaque that listed the county commissioners in office at the time the project was authorized.

It seems that some politicians were upset because they thought the plaque should list the current commissioners, and others felt slighted because the Statesville City Council was not recognized for providing part of the funding for the project.

For whatever reason, we are told the plaque has since disappeared.

The Iredell Citizen ran an article on the plaque, but it seems the story stayed under the radar screen of the other media.

The new library is an impressive facility and an asset to the community. We would suggest that the most fitting memorial would be a plaque to the taxpayers of Iredell County, who paid for the building.
