At its October 3 meeting, the county commissioners voted 4/1 to give Mooresville zoning control of a large tract of land outside the town limits on Coddle Creek Road. Commissioner Godfrey Williams cast the dissenting vote.

Developers plan to build several-hundred new homes on the site. Mooresville zoning allows smaller lots, and thus more housing units on the site, than does county zoning.

Williams pointed out that the high-density subdivision would pour even more students into the area’s overcrowded schools.
