Three seats on the Iredell-Statesville
Board of Education are on the May 2 ballot. The elections are
non-partisan.
District 3
This district roughly covers the
northern half of Statesville.
Incumbent David Parker, a local
lawyer, is running for re-election. Parker is arguably the most liberal
elected official in Iredell County; he made substantial campaign donations
to Al Gore and John Edwards. He has been supportive of Superintendent
Holliday.
Parker is facing opposition from
John B. Rogers, a retired teacher.
District 5
This district covers part of
Troutman and areas of the county south and west of Statesville and north
and west of Mooresville. Incumbent Jim Head is not running for
re-election.
Businessman and civic leader Bill
Brater is running for the seat. Brater is associated with Bunch Johnson
Funeral Home and has been very active in civic and community affairs.
Lawyer Bill Baity is also running
for the seat. Baity once ran unsuccessfully for the N.C. House.
District 7
This district roughly covers the
part of the school district that lies south of Hwy. 150. Incumbent Tara
Cashion is not seeking reelection.
Banker Jeff Firestone, retired
teacher Rhonda Dehler, and Karen Watson are competing for the seat. Dehler
has been a vocal critic of the Baldrige program.
