The monument to Confederate soldiers in front of the old Iredell County Courthouse was dedicated May 10, 1906. On Saturday, May 6, a ceremonies will be held to celebrate the 100th anniversary of that monument. A memorial service will be held at 8:30 a.m. followed by a rededication ceremony at 11:00 a.m. For more information call 704-871-8287.

In 1864, the H.L. Hunley became the first submarine to sink an enemy ship. A 40 ft. replica of the submarine will be on display at the Statesville Depot May 2 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and May 3 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
