Incumbents did not fare well in the
recent municipal elections. Sitting council members in Statesville,
Mooresville, and Troutman lost bids for re-election.
Frank Fields, Chairman of the
Mooresville Graded School District Board of Education, was also defeated
in his bid for re-election. With 32 years service on the board, he was the
senior elected official in Iredell County.
Fields was a tireless and
enthusiastic advocate for the Mooresville schools, and always conducted
himself as a gentleman. For decades he dedicated much of his time and
energy to serving the school district and the community.
We sometimes disagreed with Fields. Like most school
board members, he was continually lobbying for more tax money. Often
elected officials stay in office for too long. But those who have worked
hard and served honorably deserve to be recognized for their contributions
